Gospel Thought: Grace to Forgive, Grace to Obey

If you are in Christ Jesus, you are free. There is no condemnation in Christ (Romans 8:1). Yet, thanks be to God, He disciplines those that he loves (Hebrews 12:6).  In this we have two perspectives, and both are crucial.  Realizing that there is no condemnation in Christ guards us from embracing harsh legalism and pursuing a life of joy stealing self-righteousness.  On the other hand, realizing that we receive loving discipline from God guards us from sin and disobedience.

So then, concerning the Grace of God, It is always best to remember these two things.

1 – Grace is given to provide forgiveness, AND

2 – Grace is given to promote obedience.

Grace is never given as a means to disobey.  Grace is not simply forgiveness.  Grace should never lead us to say, “My sin is no big deal, God will forgive me.”  In the words of Paul “May it never be!” (Romans 6:1-2)  Remember: Grace provides forgiveness. Grace promotes obedience. Keeping this tension guards us from legalism on one hand and licentiousness on the other.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus,
who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit”
    – Romans 8:1-2

there is no condemnation to those who walk according to the spirit.
to those who walks according to grace

to those who are under the Law, who walks in the flesh will continue sinning
because they are under bondage, they are a slave to sin

@2 – Grace is given to promote obedience.

    I totally agree with this.

the obedience Paul talks about is

“Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith”
    – Romans 1:5

It is the OBEDIENCE OF FAITH. believe you are rigthteous and justified by faith. not by works

“Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law”
    – Romans 3:28

    Obedience of Faith
    – believe that we are justified not by our works (by obeying to keep the law, or do good works)
    – believe that the grace of God will transform us, and empower us to live

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have PEACE with GOD through our Lord Jesus Christ,”
    – Romans 5:1

Believing you are justified by faith brings you to peace
unlike before, we use to FEAR PUNISHMENT because we have’nt been obedient

the Law is = do good get good. do bad get beat

    @Grace is not simply forgiveness

    Amen brotha!

the Law says, “thou shall not murder”. You do not murder. it ends there

but under grace not only “you do not murder”, but “you give your life to someone you dont even know”

@In the words of Paul “May it never be!”

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?
Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?”
    – Romans 6:1-2

grace does not promote sin. it is impossible to be continue in sin. we are dead to it.

grace is a person. Grace is Jesus!

“For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”
    – John 1:17

    grace and peace to ya
